Some of the best parts about planning your wedding are the little details that allow you to show your personality, and one of the best ways to show it off is with DIY touches. Here are some beautiful, simple details you can make yourself for your wedding day.
Framed Chalkboard Ceremony Program
If you’ve thought about having programs printed out for your ceremony, you may want to consider one large program written on a chalkboard instead. This allows you not only to save resources in paper and printing, but it also is much less expensive. This idea is especially beautiful for shabby-chic ceremonies or those held outdoors. To do this project, you will need a piece of chalkboard cut to the size of a large picture frame. Frame the piece of chalkboard and write the pertinent information onto your DIY program. Set it on an easel or in a place where your guests will see it as they walk in.
An easy yet dramatic way to spruce up the area around your cake table is by making a ribbon backdrop. This not only adds color but it also can help disguise a section of the room that may not be very attractive. To make this backdrop, you will need quite a bit of ribbon in your chosen colors. Depending on the size you want, you may need up to 100 yards of ribbon or more. You will also need something for the ribbon to hang from. You can build a stand with PVC pipe, wooden dowels, or you can string a thin piece of rope from two cup hooks in the wall. Whichever pipe, dowel, or rope you choose, begin tying long strands of ribbon onto it and let the ribbon fall to the floor. Place each ribbon close to the next so that you cannot see through and then set or hang this backdrop in your chosen location.
Hand-Painted Votive Candle Holders
Another fun detail that you can DIY is hand-painted candle holders for your reception tables. If you are looking for a modern or artistic theme for your wedding reception, this is the project for you. You don’t have to be overly artistic to make these votives as the goal is for them to look very abstract. You will simply need some glass votive candle holders and acrylic paints in your chosen colors. Before you begin, add some water to each color of paint you intend to use to make it somewhat runny. Take a paintbrush and apply the runny paint to the inside of the votive, allowing it to run down the inside. Pour the excess out and repeat with other colors if desired. Be sure they are completely dry before adding a candle.
Your wedding is going to be one of the most memorable days of your life. Taking the time to add DIY touches to your wedding accents will make your day even more special.
